Applications - Schedule of Required Information and Attachments

 

 The information that is required of applicants is set out below. There is no prescribed application form. Most of the information that needs to be provided should be included as Annexures to the applicant’s submission. Applicants must submit the information in the numbered order in which it appears below. The applicant is taken to be the consortium co-ordinator and, as such, the contact person to the Innovation Fund Trust.

 


SCHEDULE OF INFORMATION THAT WILL BE REQUIRED WHEN APPLYING FOR SUPPORT FROM THE INNOVATION FUND

 

A. PROJECT TITLE

Approximately 25 words.

 

B. DETAILS AND CONTACT DETAILS OF THE CO-ORDINATOR AND CONSORTIUM MEMBERS

This section calls for administrative details of the consortium.

 

C. PROJECT OVERVIEW

Here an overview of the project is required. The information that needs to be submitted includes:

i. PROBLEM STATEMENT - 200 WORDS 
ii. PROJECT SUMMARY - 200 WORDS 
iii. PROJECT PROPOSAL (detailed description) 

  • OBJECTIVES 

  • KEY ACTIVITIES 

    • Briefly describe the work within each key activity, using each activity as a heading;

    • Any proprietary information furnished must be indicated as such and be clearly marked: "not for publication"

  • DESCRIBE OUTPUT AND SET MILESTONES

  • LIST THE ANTICIPATED OUTCOME

  • CITE RESPONSIBILITIES OF CONSORTIA MEMBERS

iv. PROJECT COSTING AND DATES 
v. INELIGIBLE ASSOCIATED WORK

  • Ineligible costs include marketing and commercialisation expenses - to be covered by other sources of funding 

  • Briefly describe any activities that are an essential component of the project but which are ineligible under the innovation fund - also see "eligibility criteria" below 

 

D. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Provide information for assessing the project’s compliance in terms of eligibility criteria 

i. R & D CONTENT

Describe how the r & d activities of the project involve innovation and technical risk

ii. NON R & D COSTS ALLOWED

  • SUPPORT FOR ACQUISITION OF PATENTS 

  • SUPPORT FOR LICENSING 

  • PRODUCT DESIGN 

  • PRODUCT TESTING 

  • CAPITAL EXPENDITURE, e.g. PLANT 

 

E. EVALUATION CRITERIA

The proposals must involve projects that generate products/processes for commercialisation or new methodologies for development programmes orientated towards service delivery. Proposals will be evaluated in terms of the criteria listed below :

F. PROJECT EXPENDITURE 

This section calls for a financial plan for the project 

i. A BREAKDOWN OF:

  •  ELIGIBLE EXPENDITURE, SUCH AS:

    • R & D LABOUR EXPENDITURE

    • CONTRACT EXPENDITURE

    • PLANT EXPENDITURE

    • PROTOTYPE EXPENDITURE

    • OTHER EXPENDITURE

  • INELIGIBLE EXPENDITURE:

    • MARKETING EXPENSES

    • COMMERCIALISATION EXPENSES 

ii. AN INDICATION OF SOURCES OF FUNDING FOR THE PROJECT - USE OF OWN AND OTHER FUNDS

(Project will not be considered on the basis of potential loan capital) 

 

G. ORGANISATION INFORMATION

This section requires background information about the organisations in the consortium

i. FINANCIAL INFORMATION

ii. CONSORTIUM INTER- AND INTRA-ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

iii. A RECORD OF PREVIOUS STATE AND OTHER ASSISTANCE WITH PROJECTS OF THIS NATURE

 

H. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING SIGNED BY CONSORTIUM PARTNERS IN RESPECT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

(See par 1.7 under Applications: General Information)

 

I. REFEREES

Full contact details required of at least three referees. (Referees must be willing/available to be contracted by the Department should the need arises).

 

J. CHECKLIST OF ATTACHMENTS

This section sets out a schedule of all the attachments that should be included with the proposal

i. CONSORTIUM BUSINESS PLAN;

ii. FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE PREVIOUS FINANCIAL YEAR, INCLUDING CONSOLIDATED STATEMENTS WHERE THE CONSORTIUM MEMBER IS PART OF A GROUP;

iii. STATEMENT ON PREVIOUS R & D RELATING TO PROJECT (IF APPLICABLE);

iv. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN CONSORTIA MEMBERS (contract will be required if the project is finally selected);

v. SCHEDULE OF CONTACT DETAILS FOR CONSORTIUM MEMBERS, LEGAL AND FINANCIAL REPRESENTATIVES OF CONSORTIUM MEMBERS;

vi. OPERATIONAL AND MAINTENANCE PLAN FOR EXPENDITURE ON PLANT (EQUIPMENT);

vii. RELEVANT CV’s TO BE PROVIDED;

viii. TABLE OF MARKET RETURN (see paragraph 1.6.4 under Applications: General Information).
